In 2024, UN Member States adopted the Pact for the Future and its annexes—the Declaration on Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact—establishing a shared set of commitments to address global challenges across sustainable development, peace and security, digital governance, financing for development, and the reform of global institutions.
As the international community moves toward the 2028 High-Level Review of the Pact for the Future, civil society has a critical role to play in ensuring these commitments translate into meaningful action. This includes monitoring implementation, identifying gaps and priorities, bringing regional perspectives and expertise, and strengthening accountability.
These discussions also take place in the context of the UN80 Initiative, which seeks to support the modernization of the UN system in response to evolving global challenges. Together, these processes are shaping ongoing debates on the future of multilateral cooperation.
In this context, the Coalition for the UN We Need (C4UN), in collaboration with the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), is convening the Regional Futures Forum for the Arab region. This 90-minute interactive consultation will bring together civil society actors to exchange perspectives on the implementation of the Pact for the Future, identify regional priorities, and examine how these efforts connect to broader UN processes.
The discussion will explore where momentum around the Pact is strongest within the region, while highlighting key challenges, political dynamics, and opportunities for civil society engagement in shaping more inclusive and accountable multilateral processes.
This forum is part of C4UN’s 2026 Regional Futures Forums—a global series of consultations feeding into the Global Futures Forum (July 2026), the 2028 High-Level Review of the Pact for the Future, and ongoing UN80 reform discussions. It contributes to the development of a People’s Framework to help inform the future of global governance.
Participants are invited to actively engage in the discussion and contribute regional insights to this broader global process.
